DESCRIPTION:While the Ethereum roadmap makes strides in protocol efficiency
\, data availability and cryptographic security\, a bottleneck remains una
ddressed: the social layer of technology acceptance. As we transition from
‘building the infrastructure’ to ‘onboarding the world’\, the suc
cess of decentralised systems will be dictated not only by their technical
throughput but by their psychological and socio-economic alignment with e
nd-users. \n\nThis session bridges the gap between rigorous protocol engin
eering and academic behavioural science. By examining a tested tourism use
case\, we move beyond speculative narratives to present empirical data on
how blockchain solutions are perceived in a high-touch\, trust-dependent
industry. \n\nThe narrative follows the journey of a decentralised applic
ation within the Swiss tourism sector\, illustrating that ‘acceptance en
gineering’ is as vital as ‘protocol engineering’. By treating social
acceptance as a variable that requires the same level of academic rigour
as a consensus algorithm\, we propose a more holistic framework for the ne
 xt decade of Ethereum’s growth.
