DESCRIPTION:Decentralized finance has proven that financial infrastructure
can operate transparently and autonomously on blockchain networks. However
\, most DeFi activity today still revolves around crypto-native assets and
speculative trading\, leaving the vast majority of global financial marke
ts off-chain.\nReal-world assets (RWAs) represent the next major evolution
of on-chain finance. By tokenizing traditional instruments such as corpor
ate bonds\, private credit\, and government securities\, blockchain infras
tructure can connect DeFi liquidity with the trillions of dollars in globa
l capital markets. Tokenization converts traditional financial assets into
blockchain-based tokens representing ownership or claims to underlying as
sets\, enabling programmable settlement\, global accessibility\, and fract
ional ownership.\nThe growth of this sector has accelerated rapidly. The t
okenized RWA market (excluding stablecoins) is estimated at approximately
$19–36 billion as of 2025–2026\, with projections suggesting it could
surpass $100 billion in the coming years\, driven largely by tokenized gov
ernment debt and private credit. Ethereum currently hosts the majority of
tokenized RWAs across public blockchains\, reflecting its role as the prim
ary infrastructure layer for on-chain financial markets.\nBeyond expanding
the types of assets available on-chain\, RWAs also introduce something De
Fi has historically lacked: predictable\, real-world cash flows. Instead o
f relying primarily on token incentives or speculative yield\, DeFi protoc
ols can integrate income streams derived from real economic activity\, suc
h as corporate lending or trade finance. This shift has the potential to t
ransform DeFi from a largely crypto-native system into a broader financial
layer connected to global capital markets.\nAnother important implication
is accessibility. Many traditional financial instruments—particularly c
orporate bonds and private credit—are typically accessible only to insti
tutional or qualified investors due to regulatory frameworks\, high minimu
m investment sizes\, and distribution limitations. By issuing these instru
ments as tokenized assets on blockchain networks and enabling them to circ
ulate through DeFi infrastructure\, it becomes possible to fractionalize o
wnership and expand access to a broader set of participants globally. \nTh
is talk explores how tokenized corporate bonds and credit instruments can
integrate with DeFi infrastructure\, the technical and legal prerequisites
required to make these assets usable on-chain\, and the role of compliant
issuance frameworks in bridging institutional finance with decentralized
liquidity.\nAs RWAs mature\, they may redefine the purpose of DeFi itself:
not just decentralized trading\, but a global programmable financial syst
em where real-world economic value flows on-chain and financial markets be
come more open\, efficient\, and accessible.
