The Future of Payments: Competition and Coexistence between Stablecoins, CBDCs, and RWAs
Matthias Hafner

In 2026, the digital payment landscape is no longer a simple debate between "crypto" and "fiat." It has evolved into a sophisticated game of incentives played by governments, central banks, commercial banks, and decentralized operators. In this talk, I will analyze the complex layers of this competition. From central banks establishing trust anchors to governments navigating the strategic benefits of stablecoins as buyers of sovereign debt, the interests are varied and often overlapping. I will explore how these different actors navigate the trade-offs between stability, yield, and control, but rather highlighting the incentives that will shape the ecosystem's future.

Price Shocks and Risk Management: Algorithmic Resilience or Institutional Stability?
Michael Svoboda, Matthias Hafner, Johannes Kern, Miller Mendoza Jimenez, Marco Mariani

DeFi protocols promise to operate decentralized, yet they routinely process billions in collateral. How do these systems manage risk, and what happens when markets move violently? How does this compare to centralized solutions? This panel examines how DeFi protocols, institutional gateways, and investment firms design and evaluate risk frameworks and respond to market shocks. Ultimately, we discuss how resilient these various approaches are in fulfilling the promise of a stable and inclusive financial future.
