Building a d/Combinator
2026-04-10 –, Glatt (Y22-F-68/70)

Ethereum has capital, but it still lacks a repeatable mechanism for turning frontier ideas into real teams, real products, and long-term staying power. This talk introduces a d/combinator: a decentralized, cohort-based accelerator aligned with d/acc, built the Swiss way — credible neutrality, subsidiarity, and cooperative governance as coordination infrastructure. Combining pop-up villages for high-signal selection with a permanent Swiss hub for alumni loops and institutional memory, the model is privacy- and cypherpunk-first (ZK, verifiability, user sovereignty). It’s not a concept deck: it’s already happening, and it’s designed to compound.

What would an Ethereum-native accelerator look like if it borrowed Switzerland’s institutional instincts? — neutrality, clear mandates, and structures that compound trust — while staying true to cypherpunk roots?

In this session, I’ll lay out the operating system for a d/combinator: a decentralized accelerator aligned with d/acc (defensive/decentralized acceleration). The mechanism has two parts:

Pop-up villages that create intensity, fast iteration, and real-world signal for selecting teams under constraint.
A permanent Swiss hub that converts that burst of momentum into durable outcomes: founder presence, alumni return loops, institutional memory, and ecosystem spillovers.

We’ll cover the key design choices and trade-offs: selection markets vs committees, governance and legitimacy primitives (including cooperative-style membership and separation of rights), incentive design for high return rates, and how to scale trust and throughput together without becoming extractive. Throughout, the focus is cypherpunk and privacy-first: why privacy, verifiability, and user sovereignty should shape the pipeline from team selection to product strategy.

The punchline: this isn’t another events program. It’s an engine: cohorts produce projects, projects produce alumni, alumni produce density — and density compounds into a durable, ecosystem-grade defensive social layer for Ethereum.
