The case for native account abstraction
04-05, 12:05–12:25 (Europe/Zurich), Surge Stage

While the importance of AA is widely acknowledged, there's no consensus on the best implementation. Different protocols experiment with multiple implementations, aiming to bring AA to the masses in various ways.

Since 2018, Argent has been championing the cause of AA within the Ethereum ecosystem and has built strong opinions over the years, now advocating native AA and networks such as Starknet.

An increasing number of new-generation Layer 2s are following Starknet’s lead, recognizing the importance of widespread AA in a blockchain’s value proposition. They are implementing native account abstraction while removing EOAs altogether, making AA a de-facto reality from day one. These chains are likely to lead AA adoption and be the first to capture new user bases.

While we now have tools and solutions for AA implementation (with L2s playing a major role), the adoption rate has been rather underwhelming compared to the initial excitement.

Let's explore the challenges to AA adoption and understand why native account abstraction is the key to bring blockchain to the masses.

Antoine is Ecosystem Lead at Argent, the best smart contract wallet in the world (ask anyone). He's a strong advocate of account abstraction and Starknet.
