Native Solidity arrays leave performance on the table. Learn how aligning storage to hardware pages unlocks cheaper, faster data structures — and what new primitives this makes possible.
Monad's MIP-8 introduces page-aware storage: a 128-slot page becomes the atomic unit of I/O, and any slot accessed within a page warms the entire page. This changes the rules for how smart contract developers should think about storage layout.
In this talk, we walk through the design and implementation of monad-page-aware — an open-source Solidity library of data structures built from first principles for MIP-8. Starting with a PageAwareArray as a concrete case study, we show how co-locating length and data on the same page eliminates a cold SLOAD compared to a native uint256[], and how page alignment is achieved with a single bitwise AND in assembly.
From there, we explore what other data structures this storage model enables — and which classic patterns need rethinking.
