Space Fabric: Reinventing Hardware Architecture for Orbital Infrastructure
2026-05-09 –, Sladkovský Stage

Space Fabric enables confidential computing in orbit by running TEEs on physically inaccessible satellites, providing stronger physical security than Earth-based deployments. It adds a new attestation protocol using distributed ground stations to verify both TEE integrity and orbital location.

Modern Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) do not provide protection against physical attacks, such as hardware probing, invasive access, or side channel attacks. As a result, users must trust the physical operator not to tamper with the hardware. At the same time, more computational workloads are shifting to space, yet no confidential computing capabilities exist in this domain. We introduce Space Fabric, a hardware and protocol architecture that enables TEEs to run in physically isolated satellite environments. Because satellites are inaccessible during runtime, Space Fabric provides strong physical protection that terrestrial deployments cannot guarantee. To allow users to verify that computation is genuinely executed in orbit, we design a novel attestation protocol that leverages geographically distributed ground stations to validate both the TEE and its orbital position. Space Fabric demonstrates the feasibility of space-based confidential computing and establishes a foundation for future space-native secure infrastructure.
