Open Source & Open Data: Bringing Ethereum’s Values to Source Code Verification
2026-05-08 –, Grégr Stage

Ethereum’s most-used source code verification service is closed-source and data is siloed. This talk is about Sourcify’s journey towards changing the current state, and giving the ecosystem transparency and ownership of verified contract data.

Ethereum has a strong culture of source code verification. Developers publicly verify their contract source code to enable trustlessness for contracts. However, the most-used verification service is centralized with a closed dataset.

Sourcify, as a founding member of the Verifier Alliance, is pushing the verification ecosystem to open up. Verified contract data is replicated among Verifier Alliance members, ensuring long-term availability. Anyone can access and download the complete dataset. Sourcify's open-source tools enable anyone to self-verify the contract source code. These principles are essential for the ecosystem to maintain ownership of public verified contract data.

We’ll explore the problems with the current verification ecosystem, and how Sourcify is working to resolve these.
