Decentralize, or Die
2026-05-10 –, Grégr Stage

The crypto industry has been hollowed out by a distancing from the prime principle of crypto: decentralization. In this talk we will discuss decentralization and decentralized governance from first principles and re-build the argument for why it is important and most importantly we will explore what the implications will be if we fail.

The crypto industry has been hollowed out by a distancing from the prime principle of crypto: decentralization. In this talk we will discuss decentralization from first principles and re-build the argument for why it is important. We will take a look at DAOs, why they failed, where they have gone and where they can go next. We will discuss the shifts in the global security model due to AI and increasingly capable nation sate adversaries and propose a framework for pragmatic decentralization that balances market performance, with security and distributed consensus.

Finally, we will take a look at the wider political context and observe the radical centralization and rise of autocratic control that is sweeping the world. It is time for us to take the responsibility to drive forward decentralization, because no one else will.

Nick Almond is the Head of Governance for the Jito Network. He has been in crypto for ten years, is a die hard DAO believer and has a background in a range of disciplines spanning physics, governance, blockchain architecture and learning theory.
