DAOs are dead, long live DAOs. Three years ago, we saw a surge of L2 DAOs; every ecosystem wanted to have one. Today, all of them are either canceled, on hold, or in a sleepy, hibernation-like state. Does that mean that DAOs were a bad construct? Or is this just a temporary downtrend? I'll try to summarize my learnings from that period and provide some ideas for the future.
Aa head of governance of L2BEAT I've been a major delegate at many DAOs in the recent years: Arbitrum, Optimism, ZKsync, Uniswap, Scroll, Polygon, Starknet, Hop, Everclear, Lisk, Obol. Before that I've been involved in many community-led and public goods projects. I'm still bullish on DAOs.
