The Philosophical Debt of Ethereum and the Future of Defi Security
2026-05-10 โ€“, Masaryk Stage

DeFi security is in crisis with AI accelerated hacks. The problem lays at the foundation of Ethereum's philosophical debt - we never built an enforcement layer which leads to sever incentive mis-alignment which actively encourages malicious acts.

The talk to dive into the debt, potential solution from Anarcho-Capitalism theory and how we move Defi security forward.

DeFi security is in crisis. AI has collapsed the attacker's cost of finding exploits. The crisis isn't accidental. It's the bill coming due on a debt Ethereum has been carrying from the start โ€” a philosophical debt. We removed centralized power and, with it, the order-enforcement function it was silently providing: no chargeback, no lender of last resort, no court.

"Code is Law" was the first attempt at a replacement and did not survive contact with upgradability and smart-contract bugs. The incentive gradient now rewards bad actors, and AI is pouring accelerant on that fire.

This talk argues the replacement is a DeFi insurance layer combined with a permanent, funded white-hat economy, adapted from Dr. Murry Rothbard's model of private insurance as order enforcement. I'll walk through the philosophical issue, the Anarcho-Capitalism theory and the economic design we need.

I'm a smart-contract auditor at OpenZeppelin (7 years on DeFi, L2, and stablecoin infrastructure). I'm also building USd8 as a working test of this thesis โ€” a stablecoin with passive DeFi insurance and an order-enforcement mechanism built in. The talk is the argument; USd8 is the existence proof that it's buildable.
