The intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and disinformation represents a profound challenge for contemporary societies.
This talk discusses how cutting-edge AI technologies can disrupt democratic processes by amplifying false information, swaying public opinion, enabling mass surveillance and eroding trust in institutions. Yet, within this challenge lies opportunity—AI also offers powerful tools for identifying and neutralising false information at scale. This talk navigates through these contrasting roles of AI, highlighting both the perils and promises as we consider innovative strategies to reinforce democratic resilience against the rising tide of disinformation.
