Oracles are part of critical blockchain infrastructure. Many are ecstatic about all the new types and solutions. How much of it is actually useful? Where's the catch? What do you need to know to be safe? Join me on this dive under the hood of oracle technology.
Hopefully by now, you all know L2BEAT. The metrics shown there give a complex overview of what to look for in a Layer 2 solution. As we are scaling Ethereum to the next level (and hopefully to the moon, we have more and more new use cases for data to be brought from the physical world to the chain(s).
That is why, we need the same level of due diligence and transparency for oracle technologies.
Whether it's price data or election results or the number of rabbits jumping around in Ōkunoshima, it is extremely important to always have full verifiability and availability of the required information. That's the only way to NOT get rugged and be another story on rekt.
This talk will aim to provide a foundation in Oracles, empowering the developers of now and the future to make educated decisions on one of the most important pieces of third party infrastructure they will ever integrate.
Can your Oracle hug you, or rug you? There’s only one way to find out…
I’m a passionate software engineer with over 20 years of experience (that must mean I’m old). I have been playing with blockchain-related technologies for a few years before I found MakerDAO in 2020.
Together with the backend team I have been designing and developing oracle solutions ever since. We branched out and formed Chronicle to keep building decentralized and verifiable oracles available to everyone.
Together with some members of Polish Web3 community, I founded and run ETHWarsaw Conference, Hackathon and Meetups.
