Nearly everyone desires to reconnect deeply within living communities...and recognizes the criticality of it for a promising future:
But how do we make these visions real?
What can we learn from past and current efforts?
What are the principles and frameworks that can guide us?
The heart of a promising, grounded vision for the future of humanity centers around reconnecting deeply to self, to community, and to nature …if we are to move beyond the hyper disconnection, mass mindless consumerism, and meaningless of post-modern, anti-cultural economies... and in order to sail through the increasingly volatile waves of change brought by global warming and accelerating technologies.
But how do these visions for community become real?
What can we learn from the principles and approaches underlying past and current efforts?
Where is the emerging edge?
We will quickly review the proto-experiments of the 20th century and their underlying philosophies: from the Goethenanum to Damanhur; from Black Mountain College to EPCOT; from Esalen Institute to Burning Man.
And show how these evolved into current experiments: US and Latin American projects, apocalyptic escapes, psychedelic retreats, and de-centralized communities.
We'll use all of these examples to surface and explore the meta-frameworks and long-term thinking that can help guide us into grounding and realizing a reconnected life-way for humanity through our projects.
Daniel's mission is protecting the relationship between humans and nature. Working to increasingly leverage at a deeper axis for positive societal change, he has held founding and leadership roles in a variety of sectors and with institutions such as XPRIZE Foundation, Burning Man Project, and the Long Now Foundation. He is currently the co-founder of Reconnect Clinics, Reconnect Labs, and Reconnect Foundation.
1990s: environmental activist and film maker protesting old growth logging to the WTO and working with indigenous tribes across the American west.
2000s: led large landscape conservation projects resulting in over 100,000 acres of permanently protected properties from Alaska to Costa Rica.
2010s: leveraged large institutional and foundation capital in order to fund high-growth, high-risk, high-impact projects from health to environment and founded and financed several impact ventures in mental health.
2020s: helped cofound Reconnect Labs, a Swiss psychedelic drug development company, and Reconnect Foundation, funding indigenous eco-cultural conservation efforts in the Amazon basin and the research of consciousness. This year, Daniel is launching Reconnect Clinics: a community-centered group of clinics where the first legal research, education, and practice with psychedelic therapies and consciousness technologies can occur in Europe.
